How long does it take to acquire a Patent?
The time to acquire a patent can vary greatly depending on the speed or delay from the US Patent and Trademark office. In general, the patent office tried to complete prosection of a patent application within three years of the time we file. If USPTO delays cause the time frame to last longer than three years, this can result in the extension of the life of your patent after it issues. If you’d like to discuss more patent questions in detail, please feel free to contact our offices.
If I recieve a Patent, how long does it last?
Generally, a utility patent lasts 20 years. Design patents last 14 years from the date of filing. Sometimes, other factors such as delays can affect the lifespan of your patent. Also remember that your patent requires maintenance. This means that certain deadlines and maintenance fees are required to maintain your patent status.
